Tired of the barking dogs, screaming kids and annoying neighbors that pepper your humdrum everyday routine? Wish you could escape to somewhere new and sparkly and special for a few days, even if it’s still within Austin city limits?
Maybe this sprawling West Austin Art Deco beauty so fabulous that it’s registered as a historic landmark would do the trick.
It comes with its own rooftop deck, wine room and retractable magic door. There’s even a media room that was formerly a bomb shelter.
Or consider a treehouse studio a block from South Congress Avenue, where you’ll spend the night in the clouds above the tall oak trees under vaulted ceilings and surrounded by stainless steel appliances.
Oh, and it’s only $134 a night, so go ahead and splurge on that second round of drinks at the Continental Club.
These are just two of the nine most popular rentals in the city on HomeAway.com, an Austin-based online marketplace for the vacation rental industry. The rentals were categorized as most popular based on their popularity with travelers, said Melanie Fish, HomeAway’s travel expert, and measured using a variety of factors including number of page views, booking inquiries and traveler stays. The properties can be found under HomeAway.com’s “most popular” tab.
“Travelers are attracted to the listings because they are beautiful with great photos and in popular locations in Austin,” Fish said. “When travelers visit HomeAway.com, these are the types of homes families and groups traveling to Austin are looking for — a large home that sleeps the whole group, with multiple bedrooms and privacy.”
